After a successful start to the year, willowlamp is currently preparing for an even more fruitful and eventful latter half of 2018 in lighting design.
willowlamp Founder and Creative Director, Adam Hoets travelled to Oman last month for the Hotelier Summit GCC 2018, which facilitates networking between buyers and suppliers in the hospitality industry, supporting investment in good-quality lighting design and connecting brands that are suited for such partnerships.
While in Oman, Adam seized the chance to draw inspiration from the 2000-year-old town of Nizwa, which includes a fort and a popular marketplace. A central point for meeting, trading and sharing news, the marketplace lets customers purchase everything from pottery to spices, jewellery to decorative weapons.
Closer to home, we are excited to announce that Southern Flame, our wall-mounted chandelier inspired by Islamic symbols and customs, will be on display for an extended period at GUILD Gallery in the Silo District in Cape Town. From 8-12 November, Southern Flame will then travel to New York as part of Southern Guild’s exhibition at the renowned fair The Salon Art + Design. We are proud to exhibit alongside featured artist-designers with Southern Guild, which represents locally made high-end design.
From 8-12 August, willowlamp will exhibit at 100% Design South Africa 2018, which takes place at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg. This is the fourth consecutive year that we will participate in Africa’s leading design showcase, and our third time in collaboration with premier furniture design studio Meyer von Weilligh, curating an assemblage of complementary furniture and lighting features. A broad selection of the 2018 willowlamp collection will be on display as well. While our Spiral Faraway Tree was exhibited at 100% Design South Africa 2017, visitors to this year’s stand can expect an extended opportunity to explore the remainder of our latest lighting designs that are available to order.
Another proud announcement on the local front is the installation of two willowlamp features at the Norval Foundation in Constantia, Cape Town. The Elliptical Nebula was installed in their shop, while the Elliptical 3 Tier chandelier has been placed in their washroom, giving visitors to the esteemed art museum (which opened on 28 April 2018) a first-hand glimpse of our exquisite designs amid the beautiful surrounds and outstanding art installations.
