As 2018 draws to a close, we take time to reflect on this year’s highlights. willowlamp exhibited art pieces at both local and international design shows this year, representing South African design at home and abroad.
2018 started with a bang as we launched our first major piece for the year at Southern Guild’s 10th-anniversary exhibition “Extra-Ordinary”. The exhibition gave designers the opportunity to break conventions and explore new materials, techniques and disciplines, ultimately allowing willowlamp’s Creative Director, Adam Hoets the chance to develop a bold new take on the chandelier and resulting in the showstopping one-off Southern Flame art piece.
The month of August saw our third collaboration with furniture studio Meyer von Wielligh at 100% Design South Africa in Johannesburg as we exhibited selected art pieces from the 2018 collection alongside Meyer von Wielligh’s latest designs.
In November, the Southern Flame travelled to New York as part of Southern Guild’s exhibit at The Salon Art + Design. The New York fair featured 56 of the world’s most influential galleries in art, architecture and design, and served as an incredible platform for South African design abroad, even earning us a place in the New York Times exhibition review.
With the help of BrandKonnect, our newly appointed agent in the Middle East, willowlamp took part in Downtown Design in Dubai together with the creators of design-forward architectural planters Indigenus. The stand, which featured a selection of pieces from our 2018 collection combined with Indigenus’ bold planters, was a lush oasis of natural and glamorous elements and a striking space at the fair.
willowlamp will close for the Builder’s Break on 14 December 2018 and reopen again for business on 14 January 2019.
It has been a busy year and we would like to take this opportunity to wish all our clients, business associates and supporters a wonderful festive season and a successful 2019. We look forward to working with you on exciting new projects in the coming year.
